Pastor Bill Vogelsang was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and has been the pastor of Community since November 1989. Pastor did his undergraduate work at Valparaiso University. He graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary at Fort Wayne, Indiana, with a Masters in Historical
Theology. Prior to coming to Community, he served congregations in Tennessee and Arkansas. Pastor Vogelsang has served in various capacities at the circuit and district levels of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He also is a member of the Board of Directors at the Palomar YMCA in Escondido. Pastor and his wife, Christine, have been married since 1973. They have three adult children: Carrie Anne, who lives in San Diego, and Jacob and Noah, who are living and working in China. “It has been my privilege to watch the congregation grow both in numbers and in spiritual maturity over these nineteen years. The Lord has certainly blessed our congregation with countless gifts and talents and with people who are willing to share His Good News." |

Joel Beyer is the Vicar at Community Lutheran.
His passion for God’s mission has been an integral part of his entire life. Joel grew up in the tourist city of Hot Springs, Arkansas as the son of a Lutheran Pastor. When he graduated from High School, he
moved to Irvine, CA to attend Concordia, Irvine. There he met his beautiful bride Kristen, who now is also on staff at Community Lutheran as Director of Christian Outreach. From Irvine, Joel and Kristen transferred to Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota where Joel graduated with a Theology
Major. Joel is currently attending Seminary at the Cross-Cultural Ministry Center at Concordia Irvine. He is so excited to be a part of this amazing church where the love of God through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is proclaimed to the community! |

Dayton Dangel is the Deacon of Community Lutheran.
Dayton was born in Oceanside, CA, and raised in San Diego.
He has been married to Maria since 1986
and they have two children-daughter Laura (born 1994) and son Dayton (born
1999). The family dog, Siggy, has attained near human status and may soon be
included as an heir in the family will. The Dangels joined Community Lutheran in
2005 and live in Valley Center.
Dayton’s Deacon education came through the LCMS Pacific Southwest’s District Lay
Leadership Training Program, was completed locally, with him being commissioned

Jim Meyer was born in Denver, Colorado and lived there until the middle of his 8th grade year. In 1986, his dad took a Call to be the Senior Pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Anaheim, CA. Jim went to Orange Lutheran High School and then moved on to Concordia University
in Irvine (www.CUI.edu). Upon graduation with is degree in Religious Studies, Jim did his internship at Abiding Savior Lutheran in Lake Forest, CA and then accepted his first Call to Christ Lutheran in Costa Mesa, CA. In 1999, Jim accepted the Call to Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, MO, but after missing the sunshine and beach, in 2002, Jim accepted the Call to Community Lutheran in Escondido. In December 2003, Jim graduated Concordia University in Seward, NE with his Master's
Degree in Family Life Education. Jim has had the opportunity to serve on several District Youth Gathering committees and three committees for the National Youth Gathering in Atlanta '98 and Orlando in '04 and ’07. Jim has also led several mission and servant events to Alabama, Alaska (twice), China (twice), San Francisco (twice), and
Skopje, Macedonia during the summer of ’08. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer, in 1995 and they have 4 children: Adam, Mackenzie, Emily and Aaron. Jim also has a beagle by the name of Atwater. Jim is passionate about Denver Bronco football and Duke University basketball. He loves the opportunity to work with families and the young people of Community and looks forward to seeing how God is going to work in this place over the next 20 years. |

Kristen Beyer is a California native, was an intern from Concordia
University, St. Paul in Minnesota. After living with a pastor's family in
Denmark in high school, she developed a love for ministry and outreach.
Kristen started her college education in 2005 at Concordia, Irvine in the DCE
program, but transferred to St. Paul in 2007 as soon as she found out about
their unique major in Christian Outreach. Kristen has spent her time in
college volunteering with Somali refugees, teaching ESL to Korean young adults,
coordinating international student programs, singing in choir, and leading a
small group for college students. In August 2008, Kristen married Joel Beyer, who shares and encourages Kristen's love for God's mission. She was installed as our DCO in January 2010.

Donna Hinke
is a Midwest girl, born and raised in Iowa where she met and went to school with her husband, Jeff. They moved to California in 1983 and consider Iowa a good place to be from. The Hinke's joined the Community Family of Faith in 2000 and Donna joined the staff of Community in Feb. of 2003. Donna has a degree in Sociology and years of experience as a volunteer. |

Margaret Simonsen has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years and has practiced nursing in three states in a variety of settings including: Home Health Visitation, emergency clinics, doctors’ offices, and hospital units of Medical-Surgical, Intensive Care,
Coronary Care, Emergency Department, and Operating Room. She attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing with an A.S. in nursing from Pensacola College, a B.S. in Health Science and Masters in Education from Chapman University. She also holds a Teaching Credential from National University. She has been a certified instructor for
the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. Margaret’s goal as a Parish Nurse is to teach and encourage emotional and physical well- being in harmony with spiritual goals. She is married to Weaver Simonsen and has a grown, married daughter. |

Robbie Briones was born June 3 1987. Robbie is a native Californian and has been a part of the Lutheran church from the day he was born. Robbie has always had a passion for working with and in the church leading bible studies, playing and singing music, interning with the youth director at Gloria Dei for one year and using his vision to find new ways to spread the good news of Christ. In June 2008, after looking for a place to grow in his service to God and others, he found a home at Community Lutheran Church. Since the beginning of his membership at Community Lutheran he has helped put together a Worship Team and started a Sunday evening praise service. Robbie is currently Chair of the Board of Outreach and in September 2009 he was offered a position on the staff as the Worship Team Leader. Robbie is currently finishing classes at Mira Costa College and plans to transfer to a Concordia after which he will attend Seminary to become a Pastor. |

Chris
Ryan was born in Appleton, Wisconsin. After moving around the country with his family, he settled down in Houston, Texas where he graduated from Westchester High School. Chris started his college education at Concordia University in Austin and then transferred to Concordia University (then called Christ College) in Irvine. He graduated with a DCE degree in 1987. |
