STOP!
By Kristen Beyer

stopHow many people do you speak with on Sunday mornings?  How many of them are people you know, and how many of them are people you don’t know?  Before you leave church on Sundays, challenge yourself to S.T.O.P., or Speak To One Person you don’t already know.  If everyone challenges themselves to speak to one person they don’t know, our guests and new members will feel welcomed and comfortable asking questions about our ministries.  You might even get to know some members you’d never had the opportunity to chat with before.  If you’re not sure if the person is a guest or member, you might introduce yourself by saying, “I’m _______.  I don’t think we’ve met.”  This gives them the opportunity to identify themselves.  If they are a guest, please invite them to our Information/ Welcome booth.  If they are a member, you might ask about with which ministries they are involved and how long they’ve been a part of Community.  God bless your Sunday worship, and remember to S.T.O.P. before you leave!
Whether we know it or not, all of us are witnesses to our faith in God, and we want that witness to be positive, open and friendly.

We should make sure we're ready for 'company' and that we treat our visitors that way.

Spiritual Conversations
Kristen Beyer will be attending the LifeLight small group at the Pennington’s on November 5th and 12th, the Simonsen’s on November 17th, and the McFerran’s on January 13th to talk about having spiritual conversations.  Do you ever feel like you’ve missed an opportunity to talk about your faith because you didn’t know how to transition a conversation?  How do you explain the gospel once the conversation does open up?  Kristen will be leading a discussion on reaching out through spiritual conversations and presenting a challenge to seek them out in your everyday life.

Reaching Out With Motorcycles

motorcycleEach weekend, the sound of motorcycles can be heard from the church as they pass by on their way to Valley Center, Lake Wohlford, Palomar Mountain, and points beyond.  If you own a motorcycle, owned a motorcycle, would like to someday, or are a motorcyclist at heart and are up for launching a new outreach ministry to motorcyclists, contact Dayton Dangel or Kristen Beyer at kbeyer@clcesc.org.  Leather jacket not required…

December 2008 News

Christmas Invitations
Please pick up invitations to our Christmas activities and services at the Welcome Booth to pass out to friends and relatives. You might start by asking them about their Christmas plans. If it sounds like they do not have plans to worship somewhere on Christmas Eve, for example, you might say, “I’d love it if you’d join us at Community on Christmas Eve,” and give them an invitation. Also on the invitations, you will find information about our Christmas Concert, children’s program, and advent services. Challenge yourself to give out at least one invitation, but take as many as you’d like! Contact Kristen Beyer for more information.

Young Adult Movie Nights
Young adult small groups continue on Sunday nights from 7:00-9:00pm, but we will focus on outreach to friends, coworkers, and classmates on the second Sunday of each month by hosting a movie night. These movie nights will feature films which will set up a discussion on faith and values. Bring your friends to a non-threatening and fun activity on the second Sunday of the month! Contact Kristen Beyer for more information.

First Impressions Team
Thank you to everyone who signed up to be a greeter for our new sanctuary. As a part of our First Impressions Team, you will want to check the schedule regularly and know your position as we begin this month. If you have any questions or did not receive a First Impressions Team Guide in the mail, please contact Kristen Beyer at kbeyer@clcesc.org or at the church office.

Preschool Prayer Partner Update
One preschool parent commented to me a while ago that she could feel her prayer partner praying for her as she went through a difficult time. Thank you to everyone who offered to pray for a preschool family! Many of our families at the preschool feel very appreciated and cared for! We have many families who are comfortable sharing prayer requests, and some who have not yet shared prayer requests. If you have not heard anything about your preschool family, please continue to pray for them. We have had several church families show an interest in our congregation, and a few who have begun attending services with us and MOPS. If you have any questions about the preschool prayer partners, contact Kristen Beyer at kbeyer@clcesc.org or at the church office.

Board of Outreach
“But this is Where I Always Sit” by Joy Risher
Your personal outreach ministry for December has to do with Making Yourself Uncomfortable (at first) in order to make our guests feel as though we were expecting them. Our ministry would be changing where we prefer to sit. Move up several rows and leave the back two or three rows open for our guests. The same goes for those cherished and coveted seats on the aisles. How willing are we to Make Ourselves Uncomfortable (at first) by scooting into the middle of the rows so our guests don’t have to climb over us? And yes, there will be people who for various reasons truly need to be on the aisle – we know it and God knows it, so be kind.
